The Maremma is one of the most beautiful areas in Tuscany, combining a crystalline sea, a highly changeable coastline (white beaches, rocks and inlets) with a hinterland enhanced by extremely varied landscapes.
Its natural beauty is so precious that the entire area is covered with nature parks, reserves, oasIs and protected areas including:
Natural Park “Arcipelago Toscano”: created in 1996 the park covers 18,000 land and 60,000 marine hectares, including the 7 islands belonging to the Tuscan Archipelagus, with Giannutri and the Isola del Giglio (the island of the Lily) accessible by ferry from Porto Santo Stefano.
Natural Park “Maremma”: also known as the Parco dell'Uccellina stretches over 9,800 hectares. To get there: from the state road Aurelia, exit at Alberese. The park is open all year round (except at Christmas and New Year).
WWF Reserve Laguna di Orbetello
State Natural Reserve "Dune Feniglia": after Orbetello go towards Monte Argentario, deviate left for Porto Ercole, then take a white dirt road to access the park and the splendid beaches of the Feniglia area. You can also enter on foot or by bike.
Biogenetic Natural Reserve "Tomboli di Follonica": with stupendous beaches stretching along the Follonica Coast.
Fauna Protection and ANPIL (managed together with the Scarlino town council) Padule and Costiere di Scarlino oasis: the oasis is near Puntone. Not far away is also the biogenetic nature reserve "Scarlino" (Poggio Ospedaletto), to the left overlooking the sea.
